Shutterstock: Definition and Opportunity

Shutterstock or “SS” is a well-known term among the designers and photographers who advertise their artworks in the website or microstock agencies. Compared to other agencies, Shutterstock is more preferred due to its reputation and high level of demand.

Shutterstock has been in the leading position since these recent years. Initially, it is created to connect the creative business professionals to contributors from all over the world. Shutterstock was founded by Jon Oringer (http://jonoringer.com/) in 2003 and headquartered in the New York City.

Among microstockers, Shutterstock is the most favorite microstock website. The wide range of marketplace coverage and high demand are two of some reasons why designers choose it for dollars earning.
What about the opportunity?

In Shutterstock, designers and photographers can purchase vectors and photos while advertising their own products. For agencies or advertisers, the access to Shutterstock photos and vectors bank can save them some money when they purchase the products in Shutterstock for their advertisement due to its lower price. Since launched, Shutterstock has facilitated designers to advertise their products. In the Shutterstock official video, many contributors shared their success story. One of them could afford a house from this business. Don’t you think to turn to this business shortly?

What about the income?

You can earn $0,25 - $0,38 for a basic category and $1,88 - $2,85 for “On Demand” category. Your income, however, may increase anytime, depending on the number of downloads from the customers. I, once, have earned $58,66 (about IDR 650.000). Fantastic, isn’t it? 

High price of vectors

The table above tells us that my income is unlimited. Why is it? It is possible because the free royalty system enables the vectors to be reselled many times by anyone but the whole royalty remains ours. It means that each vector may be taken with the highest price. It implies that we can get unlimited passive income.

What to sell in Shutterstock?

2.Photograph (generic or editorial)
3.Video ( 5 to 10 seconds long)
4.Music (basically a music arrangement aimed for a back sound)
